Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Popular historic sites such as Tokyo National Museum and Senso-ji Temple are in your itinerary. Shop till you drop at Ginza and Harajuku Takeshita-dori. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Mt. Takao in Hachioji, about 1h 10 min away. Next up on the itinerary: wander the streets of Odaiba and meet the residents at Ueno Zoo.

Sydney, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) (AEST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a -1 hour difference. Traveling from Sydney in March, things will get cooler in Tokyo: highs are around 17°C and lows about 7°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Sunayama Beach and Yabiji. Escape the urban bustle at Yonaha Maehama Beach and Tomori Imugya Beach. There's still lots to do: take in the views from Irabu Bridge, visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and enjoy the sand and surf at Hora Gyoko no Hama Beach.

Fly from Tokyo to Miyakojima in 4.5 hours. In March, Miyakojima is a bit warmer than Tokyo - with highs of 26°C and lows of 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 1st (Wed) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Thu): stop by Yurateiku Market, get to know the fascinating history of Island Countryside Settlement, browse the exhibits of Nei Museum of Art, then take an in-depth tour of Ishigaki Yaima Village, and finally explore the fascinating underground world of Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave. Museum-lovers will get to explore Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan and Museum of Oriental Ceramics. You'll discover tucked-away gems like CUPNOODLES MUSEUM OSAKA IKEDA and Kyoto Railway Museum. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Osaka (Mint Museum & Dotonbori). Traveling by combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Kyoto takes 6 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. While traveling from Ishigaki, expect little chillier days and cooler nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 22°C to lows of 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Tue) so you can travel to Naha.

Naha, the capital of Okinawa, has deep roots: Stone Age relics have been found in the city, and through the Middle Ages it rose in importance in the Ryukyu Kingdom.
On the 7th (Tue), explore the striking landscape at Cape Manzamo, then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and then step into the grandiose world of Shurijo Castle.
