Kick off your visit on the 26th (Fri): explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Senso-ji Temple. On your second day here, take a stroll through Odaiba, wander the streets of Ginza, and then examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum.

Toronto, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 16.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time to Japan Standard Time is 14 hours. Expect somewhat warmer temperatures when traveling from Toronto in April; daily highs in Tokyo reach 22°C and lows reach 12°C. On the 29th (Mon), stroll through Sunayama Beach, snap pictures at Irabu Bridge, then kick back and relax at Toguchi no Hama, and finally stroll through Yonaha Maehama Beach. Drive from Matsue to Himeji in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi, flight, and train; or take a train. In May, plan for daily highs up to 25°C, and evening lows to 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Mon) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Nijo Castle and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Head to Dotonbori and Maiko Antiques Kyotofor plenty of shopping. Change things up with a short trip to Osaka Castle in Osaka (about 1h 10 min away). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanjusangendo Temple, and make a trip to Gion.

Take a train from Himeji to Kyoto in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Himeji in May, plan for somewhat warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 29°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 17°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can travel back home.
