The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Tenryuji Temple and Nanzen-ji Temple. Do some cultural sightseeing at Tofuku-ji Temple and Eikando Zenrinji Temple. Explore Kyoto's surroundings by going to Atsuta Jingu Shrine (in Nagoya), Miho Museum (in Koka) and Hikone (Genkyuen Garden & Hikone Castle).
