Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Senso-ji Temple and Harajuku Takeshita-dori are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visiting Ueno Zoo and Mt. Takao will get you outdoors. It doesn't end there: take a stroll through Odaiba and shop like a local with Ginza.

Sydney, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Sydney to Tokyo, you'll gain 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Sydney in March, things will get colder in Tokyo: highs are around 17°C and lows about 7°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Miyakojima.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Escape the urban bustle at Sunayama Beach and Yonaha Maehama Beach. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Hora Gyoko no Hama Beach and Nagamahama Beach Coast. There's still lots to do: see the vivid underwater world at Yabiji, visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and stroll through Tomori Imugya Beach.

Getting from Tokyo to Miyakojima by flight takes about 4.5 hours. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Tokyo in March: high temperatures in Miyakojima hover around 26°C and lows are around 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Ride a ferry from Miyakojima to Iriomote-jima in 4 hours. In April, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 24°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) so you can catch the ferry to Ishigaki.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step off the beaten path and head to CUPNOODLES MUSEUM OSAKA IKEDA and Wakasa History Museum. You'll explore and learn at Museum of Oriental Ceramics and Mint Museum. Change things up with a short trip to Dotonbori in Osaka (about 1h 10 min away). There's much more to do: contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, examine the collection at Kyoto Railway Museum, take in the spiritual surroundings of Sanjusangendo Temple, and wander the streets of Gion.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Kyoto in 6 hours. Another option is to fly. When traveling from Ishigaki in April, plan for little chillier days and much colder nights in Kyoto: temperatures range from 22°C by day to 11°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
