The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. You'll explore and learn at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center and Hosomi Museum. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Kyoto: Nara (Nara Park & Todai-ji Temple) and Dotonbori (in Osaka). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Gion, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, steep yourself in history at Sanjusangendo Temple, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Sydney, Australia to Kyoto is an approximately 13.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. The time zone difference moving from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) to Japan Standard Time is minus 1 hour. Get a sense of the local culture at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and Miyajima. Visit Itsukushima Shrine and Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima for their historical value. Take a break from Hiroshima with a short trip to Yamato Museum in Kure, about 40 minutes away. You can take a train from Kyoto to Hiroshima in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In February, plan for daily highs up to 11°C, and evening lows to 3°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Sat) early enough to travel to Fujikawaguchiko-machi.

A resort town located in the foothills of Mount Fuji, Fujikawaguchiko-machi acts as a base for many who plan to take one of the trails up the iconic volcano.
Museum-lovers will appreciate The Hakone Open-Air Museum and Narukawa Art Museum. Step out of the city life by going to Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi. When in Fujikawaguchiko-machi, make a side trip to see Mt. Mano in Shizuoka, approximately 1h 20 min away. It doesn't end there: take in the awesome beauty at Ryugatake and take in the pleasant sights at Kawaguchiko Muse Museum, Atae Yuki Bldg..

Traveling by train from Hiroshima to Fujikawaguchiko-machi takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. When traveling from Hiroshima in February, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Fujikawaguchiko-machi: temperatures range from 5°C by day to 2°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Tokyo.
