A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
On the 1st (Tue), take in the views from Shinkyo and then take in the dramatic scenery at Ryuzu Waterfall. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 2nd (Wed): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nikko Tosho-gu, steep yourself in history at Nikko Futarasan Jinja Shrine, and then steep yourself in history at Taiyuimbyo Shrine.

Visit Senso-ji Temple and Tokyo National Museum for their historical value. Do your shopping at Ginza and Harajuku Takeshita-dori. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Tokyo DisneySea in Urayasu, about 30 minutes away. Have a day of magic on the 4th (Fri) at Tokyo Disneyland. The adventure continues: wander the streets of Odaiba, meet the residents at Ueno Zoo, see the interesting displays at Edo-Tokyo Museum, and make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine.

Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Osaka Castle (in Osaka) and Nara (Nigatsu-do Temple & Nara Park). Kick off your visit on the 14th (Mon): contemplate the long history of Bizenmaru, then take in nature's colorful creations at Kokoen Garden, then step into the grandiose world of Himeji Castle, and finally steep yourself in history at Nishi no Maru.
