Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Kick off your visit on the 29th (Sun): stroll through Yonehara Beach, then take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory, then visit a coastal fixture at Cape Hirakubozaki, and finally Head underground at Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave. On the 30th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: glide peacefully along the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area, walk around Banna Park, and then kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach.

Charlotte, USA to Ishigaki is an approximately 24-hour flight. You'll lose 14 hours traveling from Charlotte to Ishigaki due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Charlotte in March, expect nights in Ishigaki to be much warmer, around 65°F, while days are somewhat warmer, around 73°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 30th (Mon) early enough to catch the ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Taketomicho Iriomote-Jima stands as the second largest island in Okinawa.
On the 31st (Tue), head off the coast to Iriomote Island and then paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in the dramatic scenery at Kanpiree Waterfall, admire the sheer force of Pinaisara Falls, and then skim along the rocks with a canyoning and rapelling tour.

You can ride a ferry from Ishigaki to Iriomote-jima in an hour. In March in Iriomote-jima, expect temperatures between 73°F during the day and 65°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Wed) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Visiting Scuba & Snorkeling and Aragusuku Beach will get you outdoors. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Miyako Shrine, explore the activities along Toriike Pond, take in the views from Ikema Ohashi Bridge, and enjoy the sand and surf at Yonaha Maehama Beach.

Getting from Iriomote-jima to Miyakojima by ferry takes about 4 hours. In April, daytime highs in Miyakojima are 77°F, while nighttime lows are 68°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) so you can travel to Onna-son.

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sun): get a new perspective on things with Boat Tours & Water Sports, don't miss a visit to Nakagusuku Castle Ruins, and then steep yourself in history at Okinawa Peace Memorial Park. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel to Yakushima-cho.

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Start off your visit on the 9th (Thu): take in the spiritual surroundings of Takachiho Shrine, take in breathtaking views at Takachiho Gorge, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Amano Iwato Shrine, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Amano Yasugawara. Keep things going the next day: get impressive views of Mt. Aso and then take some stellar pictures from Daikanbo.

Other options are to do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of taxi, flight, and bus. Plan for little chillier nights when traveling from Yakushima-cho in April since evenings lows in Takachiho-cho dip to 51°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 11th (Sat) to allow time for travel back home.
