Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Get a sense of the local culture at Island Countryside Settlement and Uganzaki Lighthouse. Step out of the city life by going to Barasu Island and Nakamoto Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Ishigaki side-trips: Iriomote-jima (Kayaking & Canoeing, Kanpiree Waterfall, & more), Kuro-shima (Fuki Beach, Miyazato Beach, & more) and Kohama-jima (Kubazaki Beach, Hairumubushi Beach, & more). Porto, Portugal to Ishigaki is an approximately 21-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. You can fly from Ishigaki to Miyakojima in 2 hours. In October in Miyakojima, expect temperatures between 33°C during the day and 28°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 10th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
