Kurume
Admire the temples and shrines of Kurume, a small, compact town situated on the Chikushi Plain, known for its local products, such as an indigo woven fabric, bamboo lacquerware, and pork ramen.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Tue): take in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Tenman-gu, get engrossed in the history at Chikuzenmachi Tachiarai Peace Memorial Museum, then learn about winemaking at Kyoho Winery, then take in nature's colorful creations at Kurume Tsubaki Park, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Naritasan Kurume Bunin. Here are some ideas for day two: see the interesting displays at Kurume World Camellia Museum, tour the pleasant surroundings at Ishizumi Rice Terraces, visit Greenpia Yame, then admire the landmark architecture of Saga Castle Hommaru History Museum, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Nannyo Shrine.
