A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Fri): take in the awesome beauty at Mount Hakodate, then steep yourself in history at The Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward, then take in panoramic vistas at Goryokaku Tower, and finally admire the landmark architecture of Goryokaku Park. On the next day, wander the streets of Motomachi, look for gifts at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, make a trip to Hachimanzaka, then pause for some serene contemplation at St.John's Church Hakodate, and finally browse the eclectic array of goods at Hakodate Morning Market.

Sydney, Australia to Hakodate is an approximately 15- hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a -1 hour difference.
