Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Shop till you drop at Yurateiku Market and Nei Museum of Art. Explore hidden gems such as Cape Hirakubozaki and Yonehara Beach. And it doesn't end there: appreciate the extensive heritage of Island Countryside Settlement, take in the awesome beauty at Nosoko Mape, look and learn at Ishigakijima Observatory, and take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory.

Brussels, Belgium to Ishigaki is an approximately 20- hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Brussels to Ishigaki is 8 hours. Traveling from Brussels in October, expect Ishigaki to be warmer, temps between 34°C and 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Wed) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

Appreciate the collections at JMSDF Kure Museum and Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Daishoin Temple and Senjokaku. Get out of town with these interesting Hiroshima side-trips: Yamato Museum (in Kure), Hatsukaichi (Itsukushima Shrine & Itsukushima Shrine Torii) and Momijidani Park (in Miyajima). Next up on the itinerary: make a trip to Peace Memorial Park - Hiroshima, contemplate the long history of Atomic Bomb Dome, and step into the grandiose world of Hiroshima Castle.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Miyakojima to Hiroshima in 4.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or do a combination of flight, bus, and train. In October, Hiroshima is slightly colder than Miyakojima - with highs of 26°C and lows of 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 13th (Tue) to allow time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Dotombori District and Hankyu Umeda Honten. Explore hidden gems such as Kodai-ji Temple and Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotombori. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and take a stroll through Gion.

Traveling by train from Hiroshima to Kyoto takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In October, daytime highs in Kyoto are 27°C, while nighttime lows are 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Sat) early enough to take a train to Kanazawa.

Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Daihonzan Eihei-ji Temple and Takayama Showa Museum. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum and Gokayama. Venture out of the city with trips to Maruoka Castle (in Sakai), Takayama (Takayama Jinya, Higashiyama Walking Course, &more) and Nambu Sake Brewery (in Ono). There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Oyama Shrine, take an in-depth tour of Shirakawago Gassho Zukuri Minkaen, stop by Higashichaya Old Town, and walk around Kenrokuen Garden.

Getting from Kyoto to Kanazawa by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In October in Kanazawa, expect temperatures between 24°C during the day and 15°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Wed) early enough to take a train to Tokyo.
