The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step off the beaten path and head to Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Tofuku-ji Temple. There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, don't miss a visit to Gion, and go for a walk through Arashiyama.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. In November, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 19°C, while at night they dip to 10°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Mon) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Step off the beaten path and head to Cape Hirakubozaki and Tamatorizaki Observatory. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach, explore the activities along Kabira Bay, take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier, and enjoy breathtaking views from Maesedake Observation Site.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Kyoto to Ishigaki in 6 hours. Another option is to fly. When traveling from Kyoto in November, plan for a bit warmer days in Ishigaki, with highs around 31°C, while nights are much hotter with lows around 25°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Thu) to allow enough time to ride a ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Iriomote-jima, Japan

Taketomicho Iriomote-Jima stands as the second largest island in Okinawa.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Canyoning & Rappelling Tours and Kayaking & Canoeing.
