The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 18th (Mon), stroll through Ohori Park, enjoy breathtaking views from Fukuoka Tower, make a trip to Hakata Bus Terminal, thentake in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Tenman-gu, thentake in the spiritual surroundings of Kushida Shrine, and finally browse the different shops at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center. Keep things going the next day: explore the ancient world of Ohnojo Castle Ruins - Mt. Shiojiyama, thenstroll through Komyozen-ji Temple, and then admire the masterpieces at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Takayama to Fukuoka takes 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or drive.
