Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Popular historic sites such as Nakijin Castle Ruins and Katsuren Castle Ruins are in your itinerary. Get in touch with nature at Scuba & Snorkeling and Cape Manzamo. Change things up with these side-trips from Onna-son: Nakagusuku Castle Ruins (in Kitanakagusuku-son), Okichan Theater (in Motobu-cho) and Daisekirinzan (in Kunigami-son). A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Get outdoors at Yonaha Maehama Beach and Sunayama Beach. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Yabiji and Aragusuku Beach. You can do a combination of bus and flight from Onna-son to Miyakojima in 3.5 hours. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Miyakojima when traveling from Onna-son in March, with lows around 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Tue) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Yurateiku Market and Nei Museum of Art. Take a break from the city and head to Cape Hirakubozaki and Kayaking & Canoeing. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Kondoi Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Yonehara Beach, take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory, and find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area.

Grapple with history and appreciate modernity in Hiroshima, a city known around the world for its tragic past and inspiring rebirth.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Yamato Museum and Daishoin Temple. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims and Itsukushima Gekijyo. Traveling by combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Hiroshima takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. While traveling from Ishigaki, expect slightly colder days and cooler nights in Hiroshima, ranging from highs of 16°C to lows of 6°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Mon) so you can catch the train to Kyoto.

Do some cultural sightseeing at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Toji. Discover out-of-the-way places like Ise Shrine Geku and Fuuka-Kimono. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Himeji Castle (in Himeji) and Dotonbori (in Osaka).
