A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Kick off your visit on the 8th (Thu): take in the dramatic scenery at Oko no Taki Fall, then trek along Seibu Trail, and then explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley. On the next day, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Tachudake, get advice or help at The Yakushima World Heritage Conservation Center, and then explore the striking landscape of Yakusugi Land.

Traveling by flight from Kyoto to Yakushima-cho takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and ferry; or do a combination of train, bus, and ferry. Traveling from Kyoto in October, Yakushima-cho is a bit warmer at night with lows of 23°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Fri) to allow enough time to travel to Hiroshima.

Traveling from Yakushima-cho in October, things will get a bit cooler in Hiroshima: highs are around 26°C and lows about 19°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Tue) so you can travel to Ishigaki.
