Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to The Hakone Open-Air Museum in Hakone-machi, about 2 hours away. There's still lots to do: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, enjoy breathtaking views from Tokyo Skytree, examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum, and admire the natural beauty at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

Valletta, Malta to Tokyo is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You'll lose 8 hours traveling from Valletta to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Valletta in December, things will get slightly colder in Tokyo: highs are around 14°C and lows about 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Thu) early enough to take a train to Kanazawa.

Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) so you can travel to Naha.

Naha, the capital of Okinawa, has deep roots: Stone Age relics have been found in the city, and through the Middle Ages it rose in importance in the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Explore Naha's surroundings by going to Toma (in Zamami-son), Okinawa World Culture Kingdom Gyokusendo (in Nanjo) and Onna-son (Scuba & Snorkeling & Cape Manzamo). There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of Shurijo Castle, see the interesting displays at Haebaru Town Museum, appreciate the history behind Heiwa no Ishiji, and make a trip to Makishi Public Market.

Start off your visit on the 12th (Sun): explore the historical opulence of Himeji Castle, admire the natural beauty at Koko-en, and then make a trip to Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. On your second day here, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nagoyama Reien Busharito, trek along Mt Shosha hiking, thendon't miss a visit to Shoshazan Ropeway, and finally make a trip to Otemae Street.
