Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Venture out of the city with trips to Cristo del Pacifico (in Chorrillos), Lunahuana (Rio Lunahuana & Iglesia de Santiago Apostol) and Zona Arqueologica caral (in Caral). There's lots more to do: get engrossed in the history at Museo Larco, make a trip to Circuito Magico Del Agua, visit Miraflores, and steep yourself in history at Huaca Pucllana.

A port town largely devoted to tourism, Paracas serves as a popular starting point for exploration of Peru's south coast.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Wed): don't miss a visit to The Chandelier, get outside with Outdoor Activities, then view the masterpieces at Pukasoncco, Arte Precolombino., and finally step off the mainland to explore Islas Ballestas. Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
