The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Haedong Yonggung Temple and Yeongnamlu. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Gwangalli Beach and Trick Eye Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Busan side-trips: Tongdosa Temple (in Yangsan), Yeojwacheon Stream (in Changwon) and Gimhae (Birthplace of President Roh Moo-hyun & Gimhae National Museum). Auckland, New Zealand to Busan is an approximately 18- hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of flight and bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 3 hours traveling from Auckland to Busan. Traveling from Auckland in August, you will find days in Busan are warmer (36°C), and nights are somewhat warmer (27°C). One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Gyeongju National Museum and Yeongildae Beach. Bulguksa Temple and Oksanseowon Confucian Academy will appeal to history buffs. And it doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Golgulsa Temple, contemplate the long history of Gyeongju Hyanggyo Confucian School, pause for some photo ops at Seokguram, and identify plant and animal life at Gyeongju Bird Park.

Getting from Busan to Gyeongju by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a train; or take a bus. When traveling from Busan in August, plan for a bit cooler days in Gyeongju, with highs around 26°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 26°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) to allow enough time to take a bus to Andong.

Sitting along either side of the Nakdong River, Andong maintains an unrivalled reputation as a center for Korean folk and cultural heritage.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Andong Hahoe Folk Village and Imcheonggak House. Appreciate the collections at Traditional Culture Contents Museum and Andong Folk Museum. Take a break from Andong with a short trip to Cheongnyangsa Temple in Bonghwa-gun, about 1h 05 min away. A large coastal city, Gangneung has been historically separated from much of the country because of the long, stretching mountain range that runs parallel to the sea.
