The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.

Pohang

Pohang is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and a main seaport in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. Appreciate the collections at The National Lighthouse Museum and Pohang Museum of Steel Art. Step off the beaten path and head to Hwajin Beach and Naeyeonsan County Park. Step out of Pohang with an excursion to Juwangsan National Park in Cheongsong-gun--about 1h 25 min away. There's much more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Yeongildae Beach, browse the eclectic array of goods at Jukdo Market, take in the spiritual surroundings of Oeosa Temple of Unjesan Mountain, and don't miss a visit to Homigot Sunrise Plaza.

Drive from Busan to Pohang in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. July in Pohang sees daily highs of 36°C and lows of 26°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Mon) early enough to travel to Daejeon.

Daejeon

A sprawling metropolis and center for research, Daejeon stands as the fifth largest city in South Korea.
On the 13th (Tue), look for all kinds of wild species at Hanbat Arboretum, then snap pictures at Expo Bridge, then stroll the grounds of Daejeon National Cemetery, and finally witness a stunning natural landmark at Yuseong Hot Springs Public Foot Bath. Keep things going the next day: shop like a local with Seongsajinggwan, then browse the different shops at Daejeon Jungangno Underground Shopping Center, then see the sky in a new way at Daejeon Observatory, and finally learn more about the world around you at National Heritage Center.
