Gateway to the Highlands

Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Urquhart Castle and Culloden Battlefield. Your inner history buff will appreciate Fort George and Nigg Old Church. Change things up with these side-trips from Inverness: Dornoch Cathedral (in Dornoch), Dunrobin Castle and Gardens (in Golspie) and Tarbat Discovery Centre (in Portmahomack). There's much more to do: see the interesting displays at The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection), stop by Loch Ness Centre & Exhibition, and explore the activities along Loch an Eilein.
