Suphan Buri Province travel guide
A modest landscape of low-lying plains and paddy fields belies the religious significance of Suphan Buri Province, a western region of Thailand whose name translates as "City of Gold." The name comes from Suvarnabhumi, the key "golden land" of Buddhist scripture, which some believe was located here (although many other regions in the Buddhist world also lay claim to the title). Today, a trip to Suphan Buri reveals the strong sense of spirituality it has maintained through the ages, with an abundance of temples and important monuments. In addition, the province has a reputation for producing distinctive handicrafts.
