Yangmingshan National Park and Wulai will appeal to history buffs. National Palace Museum and Ximending are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Taipei: WuLaoKeng (in Su'ao) and Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street) (in Ruifang).
