One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Bring the kids along to Lotte World and Everland. Step out of Seoul to go to Yongin and see Korean Folk Village, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. And it doesn't end there: explore the galleries of Gyeongbokgung Palace, take in nature's colorful creations at Changdeokgung Palace, stroll around Namsan Park, and shop like a local with Myeongdong Shopping Street.

Chicago, USA to Seoul is an approximately 17-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of train and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 15 hours traveling from Chicago to Seoul. In December, plan for daily highs up to 38°F, and evening lows to 24°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Tue) so you can catch the train to Gangneung.

A large coastal city, Gangneung has been historically separated from much of the country because of the long, stretching mountain range that runs parallel to the sea.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Chuam Beach and Jeongdongjin Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Gangneung: Sokcho (Seoraksan National Park & Seorak Waterpia), Osaek Jujeongol Valley (in Yangyang-gun) and Daegwallyeong Agi Mokjang (in Pyeongchang-gun).
