Explore Osaka's surroundings by going to Himeji (Nishi no Maru, Himeji Castle, &more) and Koya-cho (Koyasan Okunoin, Mt. Koya, &more). The country's first established capital, Nara houses some of the most storied buildings and natural attractions in Japan, with eight World Heritage Sites in total.
Explore Nara's surroundings by going to Wazuka-cho (Ishitera Tea Plantation & Kyoto Obubu Tea Farms), Ise (Jingu Chokokan Museum, Ise Grand Shrine, &more) and Byodoin (in Uji). There's still lots to do: appreciate the history behind Todai-ji Temple, examine the collection at Todaiji Temple Cultural Center, walk around Chubu Park, and contemplate the waterfront views at Saho River.

Traveling by train from Osaka to Nara takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive. In March in Nara, expect temperatures between 16°C during the day and 8°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Tue) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Jishu Shrine (in Otsu) and Nagoya (Nagoya Shisei Shiryokan, Nagoya Castle, &more).
