Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Food Tours and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Step out of Hobart to go to Brighton and see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, which is approximately 30 minutes away. The adventure continues: admire the natural beauty at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, admire the masterpieces at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), and contemplate the long history of Cascades Female Factory Historic Site.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Traveling from Sydney in January, expect Hobart to be little chillier, temps between 26°C and 14°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Launceston.
