Tachineputa No Yakata and Seikan Ferry Memorial Ship Hakkodamaru are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Popular historic sites such as Sannai-Maruyama Site and Komakino Ruins are in your itinerary. Explore Aomori's surroundings by going to Oirase Mountain Stream (in Towada) and Senjyojiki Beach (in Fukaura-machi). There's still lots to do: explore the world behind art at Aomori Museum of Art, witness a stunning natural landmark at Manjufukashi, admire the striking features of Aomori Prefecture Tourist Centerl ASPAM, and hunt for treasures at Aomori Gyosai Center Honten.

Tokyo to Aomori is an approximately 4-hour train ride. You can also fly; or drive. In August, Aomori is a bit cooler than Tokyo - with highs of 78°F and lows of 67°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sat) to allow enough time to take a train to Hakodate.

A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Hakodate Magistrate's Office and Hakodate Seikan Renrakusen Memorial Museum Mashumaru will appeal to museum buffs. For shopping fun, head to Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse or Hakodate Morning Market. There's lots more to do: take a stroll through Motomachi, appreciate the extensive heritage of Shinoridate Remains, take in the spiritual surroundings of Hakodate Orthodox Church, and contemplate the long history of Goryokaku Park.
