The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection)
For those interested in Scotland's regimental past or just looking to learn more about Scottish history, The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection) provides an educational, diverse experience. Partially based in Fort George's former Lieutenant Governor's house, the museum combines the intimacy of a small museum with an astounding amount of documents and relics. Start by going through the museum to learn about the Highlanders and their historical significance to Scotland. Representing three of the four famous Scottish regiments from the 1700s, the museum contains about 20,000 artifacts and 10,000 documents. Afterward, head to Fort George where you can ponder everything you have just seen while taking in the incredible view across to the Black Isle. Unfortunately, the age of the buildings gives little to no access for the disabled. Put The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection) at the forefront of your travel plans using our Inverness tour planner.

Mobility Friendly and lots of room for kids to run (on lower level). I called ahead and they brought a motorized scooter out to the parking lot for my mother. The staff was incredibly helpful and accomodating. The history of this fort is long so plan on spending hours, or the day there. There is a cafe and also a restaurant. Its a beautiful drive out of the city and not as crowded as most attractions we visited.
