Soak in medieval history while exploring 900-year-old Carlisle Cathedral. Adorned with original Gothic architecture and stone carvings, the cathedral houses England’s largest glass window in the Flowing Decorated style. Admire the colorful barrel ceiling above the main sanctuary, or attend a service to enjoy classical organ and choir music. You can explore all parts of the cathedral free of charge, including a library, the treasury, and a small gift shop. Venture across the street to have lunch in the old monk’s dining hall, now a cafe. • Beautiful little cathedral, very calm and relaxing, and a very exquisite ceiling to see. I've been to many cathedrals, and seen some marvelous decorative finishes but this ceiling was amazing to view from below. Very friendly volunteers and a welcome place for calm and tranquility, as well as learning a little history.
  • One of the finest Cathedrals I have visited. Steeped in history from the area and within site of the castle and Tully House museum. If you are in Carlisle I recommend you visit all three.
