Housed in the refurbished Tarbat Old Parish Church,Tarbat Discovery Centre is a museum, learning and activity centre dedicated to displaying and preserving the heritage of the Tarbat peninsula. It is the site of the only fully excavated Pictish monastic settlement in Scotland to date, now a National Monument.

The Centre displays many of the artefacts uncovered during the extensive archaeological investigations of the site along with local exhibitions, parish records, photographic archives and more.

    Excellent, clear explanation of important information. Good Introductory video and varied displays which cover a variety of topics from land use, art/sculpture, ecclesiastical and domestic concerns. Also covers more recent history such as introduction of compulsory schooling and evacuation in 1943. A thoroughly enjoyable visit.

    A really interesting site. There again folks going there must know that already as it's off the beaten track so going there must be a planned visit. If, perchance, you are a 'casual visitor' who is either navigationally challenged or on a magical mystery tour then I am sure you too will enjoy it. I found the history and stories described there - ancient all the way to modern days - to be well presented and really interesting. Let me know how you found it.
