Shakespeare's New Place, Stratford-upon-Avon

3.7
#5 of 17 in Parks in Stratford-upon-Avon
Visit Shakespeare’s final place of residence where he died in 1616. Shakespeare's New Place are a well-preserved Tudor building and a house bought by William Shakespeare in 1597, which are side-by-side. It is believed this is the site where Shakespeare wrote some of his later works such as The Tempest. Take a video tour of the Shakespeare houses and gardens, pay a visit to Shakespeare's grave, and explore a Tudor house and traditional knot garden. There are activities in the family marquee, Tudor games in the gardens (weekends and school holidays), and finds from a three-year archaeological dig. Put Shakespeare's New Place and other Stratford-upon-Avon attractions into our Stratford-upon-Avon trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • I was a bit disappointed. The staff were great and explained things well but I guess I expected to see something Shakespeare had lived in like the birth place not a garden, as nice as it was.  more »
  • Visited the New House and had a very informative morning visit with a lovely talk by Elliot. Although no house to see the gardens are beautiful and worth buying the all sites ticket.  more »

  • Fantastic gardens that are dog friendly. Charming surroundings with plenty of benches and deck chairs to sit and enjoy the flowers, trees and sculptures. The house itself has disabled access and tells the story of how William bought the place. You also get the chance to dress up in costumes from the period. For kids there are plenty of drawers to look through, keyholes to spy on animated tales of Shakespeare and a board game of Race to New House to play. All in all a good place to while away an hour.
  • Such a beautiful, tranquil spot. The art installations were excellent are the gardens sublime. The tours are packed with information and very interesting.
