At the time of its construction, Texas' Texas State Capitol was billed as the seventh largest building in the world. The massive Italian Renaissance Revival building was completed in 1888 and is home to the chambers of the Texas Legislature and the office of the governor. You can take a self-guided or guided tour of the building and grounds. Don’t miss the rotunda, displaying a portrait of every person who has served as the president of the Republic of Texas or governor of the state. The 8.9 hectare (22 acre) grounds boast a variety of monuments. Two of the oldest are dedicated to the Heroes of the Alamo and Confederate soldiers.     You still can't go inside due to COVID19, but the massive and impressive capital building is not to be missed. The museum nearby was excellent with some great informative history and movies.  more »

    Nice self tour and everyone made you feel welcomed, especially the state troopers! Got to pop around and see the legislature in action (or in action) so nice to see. Got a COVID test on site and...  more »

    Is this where gerrymandering thrives? Don't skip parts of the Annex when open. It is mandatory (just kidding) to look up directly beneath the dome for some memory lane pictures. Gov. Ann Richards lay in State Memorial during one visit. Love visiting this place for many reasons - tour guide, social and political assembly, of course.

    One of the best capital buildings I've been to. Amazing history and the tours are free and VERY informative. I had an amazing time being a native texan learning more about Texas history in that building than I ever have in Texas history class in grade school highly recommended place to visit
