Devoted to the Chinese ancient teacher and philosopher Confucius, Temple of Literature & National University houses the first university of Vietnam founded in the 11th century. Constructed under Ly Thanh Tong dynasty in the typical Vietnamese traditional architectural style--from wood and tiles--the temple features five historic courtyards. See the statues representing the ancient teacher and his honored disciples, the 82 stelas commemorating notable scholars, and a small collection of student and mandarin traditional uniforms. Walk the lanes planted with century-old trees and look for a tortoise head--you can see students rubbing it for good luck before taking exams. Temple of Literature & National University Reviews
Our guide gave us a very thorough history of Temple of Literature; really interesting background and well kept attraction. more »
입장료까지 내고 들어갔는데 실제 둘러볼 수 있는 규모는 많이 작은 곳이다. 물론 전체적으로 볼 때는 많고 벳남 유교 스타일을 볼 수 있어 방문할 만한 가치는 충분하다. more »It's a small place to visit. Of course, there are many total views of the Confucian style of Bethnam, so it's worth a visit.
Nice walk through the gardens led us to the library for scholars of Confucianism, there are explanation tables as well in English. Entry costs 30 Thai baht per person, entry/exit is from the south. Do not forget to entry the very last 2 story building ;) and on the exit way back the nice summer house in the gardens.
This is certainly a beautiful places and can be a serene and calm visit (if you can avoid the big groups). The architecture and the gardens are worth seeing if you have enough time in the city. However, the information given was not great, especially if you come from a different cultural background, so if you're visiting on your own don't expect to understand everything.
