The classical Hellenistic structure of Garni Temple remains the only embodiment of Armenia's pre-Christian era. Built in the 1st century CE by king Tiridates I, the temple honored the sun god Mihr. Today, in addition to drawing scores of tourists, it represents a shrine for Armenian neopaganism. As you approach the site surrounded by mountains, notice the structure's colonnades, geometrical figures, and rich decorations, all typical of Ancient Greek architectural style. Scholars speculate that it may in fact have functioned as a tomb, allowing the structure to survive the mass destruction of pagan edifices. • Garni Temple is one of my favorite places. The Location of the Temple is very beautiful and magical. I recommend visiting this place to everyone. It's not far from the city center. You can take a taxi or tour bus. The restaurants around this area are amazing too. You can explore and find many house restaurants ( family business), try them out . I highly recommend helping these families.
  • The fact of having this temple in Armenia is more fascinating than the building of temple itself, lol. Interesting history, nice columns, the ceiling and some random carvings on the stone from the "uncultured" visitors (maybe from previous centuries, not sure). There is a great mountain view behind the temple, where I actually spent more time as there is nothing to do inside of the temple. Still worth visiting if you are passing by this place.
