Try Tasmania’s best single malt whiskeys and fruit liqueurs at Lark Distillery. The first licensed distillery in Tasmania, this site has been in operation since 1839. It now operates as a bar, store, and distillery all under one roof. Free tastings of the distillery’s finest liqueurs and spirits are available daily, but for a small fee you can also test their three renowned types of whiskeys. The distillery specializes in producing liqueurs with a distinctive taste of pepperberry, which is native to eastern Australian rain forests. Stop by for a live music performance, or contact the site ahead of time to receive a discount on drinks and guided tours of Tasmania’s emerging whiskey scene. With our international travel planner, Hobart attractions like Lark Distillery can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

As a tourist it was hard to find time to visit this place. Their hours are 12-7 every day - not exactly whisky drinking hours, at least for me. But we made it by and glad we did. Bartenders are well informed about the whisky, I got a full education with the flight I had (highly recommend that route). The whisky itself is astonishingly good, as we found over most of Tasmania. Subdued, sophisticated but approachable atmosphere. Be advised, entrance is not on street front. We had to wind our way through an alley and past a delivery truck to find the front door.

After a day walking through Hobart and consuming an early dinner we stopped here. The atmosphere and tasting area set the tone. We sat down and were given a tasting menu. The selection was diverse and the pricing was high. We each made our selections and enjoyed the one to two tastes we got from each glass. Any thoughts of taking on home was dashed when I saw the $200 to $400 price for a bottle of the whiskey I liked the best. Our stay was short, our bill was high but we did enjoy the time we were here.
