  • This museum is definitely a must see. To see what these explorers had to put up with was amazing. And to think that the original hut is still in Antarctica. Well worth visiting.

  • Took my kids 13 & 9 to discover the incredible feat that these young men endured in the name of science and glad I did. The staff were informative and cross referencing displayed photos with the replica hut gave a great perspective for the kids. They were interested in the stories from Marion who was a friendly staffer happy to raise interesting facts. I’d recommend it.
  • What to say? Just a delightful highlight of Hobart wharf… Thank you so much for such a friendly welcome and knowledgeable guide. I had briefly read about Mawson and co. A striking story of Australia’s initial exploration of the Antarctic coast from 1911-13, complete with tragedy and heroism… Real food-for-thought about how we all might interact in a small group in a small space – 18 in the hut initially, 7 for the second draining year… with 2 months of darkness… The guides and the museum bring the claustrophobia, dark and relentless wind to life… A real Hobart highlight – highly recommended!
