Located off of the Great Western Highway, Katoomba is the main hub of the City of Blue Mountains. Spectacular mountain views and paths through the surrounding natural habitats draw visitor here. The name of the town means "shining falling water" in the Aboriginal language, a reference to the sparkling waterfalls that fall over the cliffs in the subtropical rainforest area. The Blue Mountains are home to the famous Three Sisters rock formation, which you can be seen from Echo Point. The town itself is notable for an active alternative subculture that gives sections of it a bohemian atmosphere.
