Create an itinerary including Tacking Point Lighthouse
Constructed in 1879, Tacking Point Lighthouse is the third oldest lighthouse in Australia. Built along a rocky coast that saw 20 shipwrecks between 1800 and 1879, the lighthouse was a necessity that stands as a monument to the ingenious colonial architect James Barnet. It is still in operation, managed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, whose work protects ships from the treacherous coastline. A 9 km (5.6 mi) coastal walk begins at the lighthouse. Bring your camera to snap a stunning shot of the tiny, white building whose light has saved the lives of many. Continue your tour with a walk along the coast, where you'll see surfers riding the waves and whales coming up for a breather. • Great spot for overnight parking/camping on car, waking up to see the sunrise straightaway. Nice view for hiking/exercises. Saw lots of people surfing near the beach. Nice Milky Way viewing at night, no light pollution. Good view and landscape for both scenic and portrait photography shots. Lots of birds flying around for spotting.
  • Absolutely amazing place. I love the 360 degree view of beach and the ocean. The gradiant of blue colour of sky and water looks beautiful. It was humid hot day but the wind makes me so fresh. The nearby beach are great for swimming. Limited car parks.. better find nearby off road parking.
