A spectacularly rocky, craggy expanse of land in the southern reaches of Tasmania, Hartz Mountains National Park has the power to enchant with its almost otherworldly appearance. The area boasts richness in plant and animal life, with the park’s lush vegetation--mostly eucalypt forest and rainforest--serving as home to indigenous species like wallabies, possums, echidnas, and platypuses. • I love this park so much - the Hartz Peak walk is amazing. It is advertised as 3-4 hours. I managed in 2h45 this time with a stop at the top for a snack. It was a public holiday so surprisingly...

  • Breathtaking! We did the Hartz Peak trail past the tarns and we were so blown away. It is a moderate walk that has some steep steps and slight scramble around the peak. The track however to Ladies' Tarn (just before the ascent to the peak) is all on platformed walking so it is very family friendly. This walk is very rewarding, the views from every water or snack stop were just remarkable.
  • The special experience that Hartz Mountains left to me is that I was able to hear the sound from water on my way to the top, which gave me the feeling that I was walking on the water. Please remember to wear hiking boots and bring extra layers. Some areas were muddy and I didn't prepare well. When you reach the peak, it could be cold.
