Create an itinerary including Macquarie Island
Watch the seals and thousands of penguins stand shoulder to shoulder on the beaches of Macquarie Island. Sitting halfway between Tasmania and Antarctica, this World Heritage Site is home to a variety of wildlife, including huge elephant seals and four species of penguins. Tasmanian park rangers guide all excursions to the island. Walking tracks and raised boardwalks meander around the island, past large penguin rookeries and colonies of seals. Note that the weather can be extremely cold and windy, and the smell and noise from the animals can be overwhelming for some visitors. • A not to be missed unique experience on a day with freakishly perfect weather. Well done on the removal of introduced species, great to see the endemic animals thriving. A great example of flora and fauna conservation
  • The animals were unkind and lazy. They refused to pose for pictures, but just laid there doing nothing. The elephant seals need to get a job and fast.
