The Venetian walls of the city are very extensive and can be seen clearly in lots of areas, particularly near the freedom monument on the south side and near the Girne gate on the north side.

Huge, intact stone walls which surround the whole Old Town. At the foot of the walls the entire area has been made into a park, which is great for a stroll, for kids to play in, etc.

Dating back to the venetian era the walls surrounding Nicosia had been built in order to protect the town from invaders. Just outside the walls deep ditches had been dug for the same reason. Parts of these wall fortifications survive to date.
