See Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery with its own winery, featuring vividly colored orthodox frescoes and collections of priceless relics and icons. According to legend, a local monk came across a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary painted by Luke the Evangelist that was washed out to sea; he collected it and dedicated this monastery to the icon in 1152. The present building, which dates to 1770, hosts an important Cypriot religious ceremony and holds fine vintage wine. View a gold- and silver-plated icon of the Virgin Mary at the gallery, and browse through Byzantine and post-Byzantine collections. You'll also find a rustic cafe on site. PutChrysorrogiatissa Monastery into our Pano Panayia tour builder and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • My fav monastery in Cyprus. It’s not commercialised and it has amazing views. They also produce some very good wine, especially the red one (Agios Elias).

  • This is the place if you need few hours of peace. The view from balcony/terrace blower out minds, we were just sitting there for a while and enjoying fascinating landscape. This is a small monastery, so it's quite empty which is great. Vine cellar and church were interesting to see. And you MUST buy vine here, it is very cheap (5€ for a bottle) and really really tasty. To wrap it up: nice and peaceful place.
  • A beautiful, serene and well kept monastery. Lucky to have visited during an atmospheric fog. Excellent shop selling monastery wine (nice Riesling), books and religious items
