Take a trip back to the Bronze Age at Archaeological Site Mycenae, one of the world's most significant archaeological sites. Featured on the World Heritage List, the site was once a major military stronghold. The ruins stand on a rugged hill 90 km (55 mi) southwest of Athens. At its peak in the 14th century BCE, the fortress and the surrounding town housed a population of more than 30,000. To see the remains of the palace complex and the famous beehive tombs, purchase a ticket at the main entrance, known as the Lion Gate. The path to the main gate is steep, so wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.     Like all archeological sites in Greece this one too so well preserved for its age . Quite a climb to the top but worth the effort and if you take the Argolis day tour from Athens it’s a good...

    Beautiful site: the museum has all the information and great objects; the site itself is large and you can walk through the ruins. It costs €12 which includes another site nearby (a must see as well). It is not wheelchair accessible and you need proper trainers to walk around. The surrounding hills / mountains create a fantastic landscape.

    This was one of the unexpected delights of our trip in Greece. I was not aware of this archaeological site prior to visiting, but it ended up being my favorite. The tomb is breathtaking due to its sheer scale and level of preservation. The rest of the site is on a steep hill, which was very windy when we visited. The views are amazing and the ancient site is very interesting. I recommend visiting with a guide.
