White Tower of Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki's most recognizable landmark, White Tower of Thessaloniki is as enigmatic as it is photogenic. The precise date of the tower's construction remains disputed, though many historians now believe the Ottomans erected this structure shortly after the army of Sultan Murad II captured the city in 1530. Possibly designed by architect Mimar Sinan (who made his name building similar structures in other Ottoman territories), the tower probably replaced a pre-existing Byzantine building. Photographed from every angle, the image of the cylindrical tower has found its way on every type of souvenir, becoming the quintessential symbol of the city. Great building and Tower. Not really white ;) Though the second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki does really feel smaller - a plus, I consider, for such a historic city. There are many historical sites all over Thessaloniki, many of which are not widely known. On Google Maps, just tap the compass to see these, filter by attractions and distance, it'd bring attractions near you and just explore.

Very nice place. I was there in December so no queues and very little people. There is a nice view from the top. Definitely worth going up. In each floor there is a small exhibition, for example of old photos (how does this tower and it's neighborhood looked like hundred years ago). Small gift shop at the top floor. I think people up to 26 years have a free entrance. View from the top is amazing.
