Villa Jovis
Built by emperor Tiberius in 27 CE, Villa Jovis is the largest and most lavish villa on the island, spanning eight terraced levels and covering 0.7 hectares (1.7 acres). Explore the mountaintop ruins and imagine the life of the reclusive emperor. Seek out the cliff where, according to rumor, Tiberius used to have people thrown into the sea. The hike up affords many opportunities to take in views of the bays of Naples and Salerno, as well as the islands of Ischia and Procida. See Villa Jovis and all Capri has to offer by arranging your trip with our Capri tour itinerary maker tool.

The man at the entrance speaks only with onomatopoeia, is unfriendly to say the least and completely unhelpfull Villa Jovis is way too overrated - the hike to get there from Capri Centro is great...

The Villa Jovis was a spectacular villa constructed for Caesar Augustus. He ruled the Roman Empire from here for 10 years. It takes imagination to visualize what the structure must have been when...

Beautiful ruins of a very interesting villa. Some parts were closed, however, there was still plenty to see. The views from up there are also great. The walk there is not very long, and despite it being uphill, it's not that strenuous. There's also a restaurant with great views on the way if you need a rest and/or a drink and food. Also along the way there is a park with even more spectacular views of the sea, cliffs, and the island.

This is an incredible place, and absolutely worth the hike. The views are incredible and you get to walk right inside the ruins. Definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. However, be aware that the entry fee is 6€ and CASH ONLY so make sure you get some cash before you hike all the way up, since there's really no other places nearby to get cash once you leave the main square.
