Create an itinerary including Shirogane Blue Pond
Rather obviously named after its deep blue color, Shirogane Blue Pond originally served as part of an erosion control system essential to protecting Biei from a potential Mount Tokachidake eruption. Located next to the hot spring destination Shirogane Onsen, this site provides visitors with a scenic place to walk and take photos. It takes less than ten minutes to walk through the wooded area and arrive at this body of water. • 陽の光を浴びて青く輝く池の景色もよいですが、ライトアップされた11月上旬の積雪前の青い池は、心奪われるほどに美しい。 Visiting in early November is recommended to see beautifully illuminated Shirogane Blue Pond.

  • Cold and frozen with snow over it in late December. Still pretty, but you can't see the water. Lights started at 4:30 PM when the sun went down. Our route: Sapporo > Asahikawa (Lilac line) > Biei...

  • A lovely place to take a relaxing stroll along the artificially created blue pond and it's tranquil surroundings. The blue water is an effect of the aluminum that has seeped into the water and reflected from the sunlight. Recommended for a nice quick visit for some photography opportunities. There is also public toilets available a this area.
  • Although the area is small, it is worth the stop. The pond is beautiful to look at with a scenic view of the dams waterfall. Parking is 500¥ per vehicle though there are a few areas prior you can pull to the side and walk to the parks many walking paths. There's a small shop that is a bit pricey but holds some cute trinkets and yummy snacks.
