Take a break from the bustle and noise of Tokyo in Hama Rikyu Gardens, a lush public space in Chuo. Surrounding a pond, the gardens housed the residence of Shoguns between the 17th and 19th centuries. Today, the park contains a teahouse in the middle of the pond, where visitors drink green tea and nibble on mochi, a traditional rice cake. Seek out a 300-year-old black pine tree, and, if you visit in early spring, the blooming cherry trees. • Such a beautiful park! As with many parks/gardens you have to pay a small fee but it is worthy. The park is surrounded by tall buildings. We enjoyed the trees and the calmness of the place. We...

  • Despite its central location it's relatively unknown and a really beautiful spot to spend a relatively uncrowded day. Good for tourists as it give a feel for the historical aspect of Tokyo. If you plane a whole day's sightseeing I recommend spending the morning here, then taking the water taxi up the river to Asakusa...a different view of the city!!
  • A beautiful park near central Tokyo, with plenty of space to allow you a long through this calming natural environment that can be otherwise very hard to find in the middle of a city. The entrance fee for an adult is currently 300 JPY, which is very reasonable. Definitely a nice place for a family or a single person to relax for a while. You are able to see the nearby modern city architecture, as well as some historical and more traditional architecture from here.
