  • We heard this is an important shrine in Hofu so we planned for a trip. It is one of Japan’s leading Tenman-gu (shrines sacred to the God of Academic Learning) which ranked alongside the Dazaifu...

  • I have heard that people come here to pray for their academics and exams. I went during cherry blossom season. It was beautiful. There is a park behind the shrine. Got a lot of cherry blossom pics . Got myself a shrine stamp. There is hall called Shunpuro which means hall of the spring breeze. It is believed that feels of spring breeze can be felt throughout the year.
  • The main reason why we came to Hofu. It is a beautiful shrine overlooking Hofu City. There are parking lots near and above the entrance, so you can easily find a parking spot. The Front entrance of the Shrine is filled with shops and restaurants. The top also has vendors with finger foods. The view from the front of the torii gate at the foot of the mountain was amazing. I imagine that nighttime would be a beautiful site with lanterns lit up. There were few people and it was quiet and a beautiful shrine. The scenery from the top of the stairway and the 800-year-old Shinboku is a masterpiece and powerful. Our kids loved it too.
