Create an itinerary including Yamato Museum
Visit Yamato Museum to learn about the "history of Kure"--the modern Japanese history after the Meiji Era--as well as Japan's shipbuilding technology and iron industry. Opened in 2005, the museum's pride remains its 1/10 scale model of the battleship Yamato. Head further along to see other artifacts like a Zero fighter plane Type 62, manned World War II torpedoes and suicide crafts, and a midget submersible research vehicle of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The parking lot usually has enough space for visitors. Take a look at our Kure road trip website to schedule your visit to Yamato Museum and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

  • Interesting presentation of the Yamato and the WW2 from a Japanese point of view. Was a good place to visit while waiting our ferry in Kure to Matsuyama.

  • Excellent museum, though not large. Includes huge 1/10 scale model of the Yamoto battleship built here during WW2. Many displays about shipbuilding history of the area, with emphasis on WW2. Well worth the visit.
  • You can learn a lot about the Japanese navy. Taking pictures is allowed except inside the submarine. The entry ticket is 500 yen, but when we visited (golden week), it was free of charge.
