Create an itinerary including Tofuku-ji Temple
Serene and ornate, Tofuku-ji Temple operates as a traditional Zen Buddhist shrine. Erected in 1236, the temple was accurately restored in the 15th century after a devastating fire destroyed much of its structure. The temple boasts a Japanese national treasure, an imposing two-storied gate considered one of the most beautiful examples of Buddhist temple gates. Look for the temple's intricate woodwork and extensive gardens, each of which is landscaped differently to symbolize images and themes in Zen Buddhism. • Amazing Zen garden by Mirei Shigemori! It's a big temple complex. With several sub temples and Zen gardens. And many of the Zen garden were design by one of the greatest Japanese garden designer...

  • Amazing temple with a variety of views and things to see. Beautifully maintained. I’ve heard it’s even more beautiful in the fall with the colors (but really crowded). We went in the middle of summer and it was great then.
  • Old zen temple. ¥500 for entrance to Zen garden was nice. Given the size of the area if you incl the bridge scene there's some grand feel to the north west side view. Another ¥500 if you want to go on the bridge (saved this for our next trips to Kyoto). Probably an overall 4.5
