Create an itinerary including Maruyama Zoo
Stroll through the quaint Maruyama Zoo, with enclosures designed to help you get up close to more than 184 species in the park. Despite its relatively small size, you can see many animal favorites, such as bears, chimpanzees, wolves, and various big cat species at the zoo. Winter serves as the most spectacular time to visit, with thick layers of snow helping the snow leopards, penguins, and polar bears feel at home. Kids will have a ball at the petting zoos, with plenty of farm animals and even kangaroos to meet. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Sapporo holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Maruyama Zoo and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Worth a Couple of Hours. Visited the zoo in winter. This is a zoo that has quite a few key animals. Elephants, Giraffes, some giant birds (and wild crows that tried to steal their food ! - you can imagine how noisy the place became). The ones that made an impact for me were the wolves and the bear. Both came up really close to the glass and were very active. One can see how big a bear really is.
  • We always love visiting zoos and this was definitely a fun experience with lots of snow! There was indoor exhibitions to keep warm and some snack stops along the way. We spent about 3 hours at the zoo and was able to see most of the park within that time period to include snack breaks!
